About Finley

I believe every student can succeed when they truly understand the subject, not just memorise it.

I tutor Biology, Chemistry, and Maths at GCSE and A-Level, subjects I’m passionate about and continue to study as part of my degree in Medicine. My approach is patient and supportive: I know some concepts can take a few tries to click, so I focus on building real understanding and exam confidence rather than rote learning.

I’ve previously tutored younger students in Maths and Biology at my sixth form, and I love seeing how the right explanation can turn a difficult topic into one that finally makes sense. In my lessons, I use the whiteboard (never just slides!) to break things down clearly and step by step. If you let me know the topics in advance, I’ll make sure every session is tailored to exactly what you need.

Tutoring is something I’ve enjoyed since school, and it’s an area I’d like to continue alongside my career—because helping students grow in confidence and achieve their goals is something I find incredibly rewarding.

About the lesson

My session plan is tailored to each student.

For some, it will look like us talking through the most challenging topics, a few minutes of me explaining what you need to know, and then a few probing questions to see if you truly understand the content. Then we move onto a more exam-question focused recap of the content, potentially including previous topics too, to improve your exam technique.

For others, it will look like us talking through the work I set for you after the last session, us going through the parts you didn't do so well on, and then going through the next content module, repeating the whole process over again.

I will respect that it tends to be a little different for Maths and Chemistry. My past students have told me that the diagrams I draw help them understand the reasoning behind how things work, so I tend to use my digital pen-tablet a lot for these two subjects, and focus heavily on diagrams to aid my explanations until my students truly understand the content.
