About Shannon

Hi! I’m a current medical student with a strong foundation in mathematics, built through years of rigorous coursework and hands-on tutoring experience. I scored a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, earned A’s in all my double-accelerated math classes, and spent over three years as a tutor at Mathnasium, helping students of all levels develop clarity and confidence in math. I take pride in creating a supportive, engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring problems at their own pace. Whether you're preparing for a major exam, catching up on classwork, or aiming to get ahead, I tailor each lesson to your needs and learning style. My goal is to help you not only improve your grades but also build lasting confidence in your math skills. Professional, reliable, and deeply invested in student success—I’m here to help you reach your goals, one equation at a time.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I believe that confidence is just as important as content. I focus on helping students truly understand the "why" behind each math concept—not just memorize formulas. My approach is patient, structured, and personalized. I aim to make math feel logical, even enjoyable, by breaking down difficult problems into manageable steps and using real-world analogies when possible.

A typical lesson begins with a quick review of what we covered last time, followed by working through new material together. I ask guiding questions to encourage independent thinking, and I always check for understanding before moving forward. If there’s an upcoming test or assignment, we’ll tailor the session to that. I also provide study strategies and practice problems to reinforce what we cover.

What sets me apart is my combination of deep content knowledge and empathy. As someone who scored a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, earned A’s in double-accelerated math courses, and worked as a Mathnasium tutor for 3 years, I know what mastery looks like—but I also remember what it feels like to be stuck. Now, as a medical student, I bring strong communication skills, discipline, and a mentorship mindset to each session.

My lessons are ideal for middle school and high school students—whether you’re building a strong math foundation, aiming to ace your exams, or just need a patient explainer to make sense of your homework.
