About Charlene

When I was learning math, I often had to sit with concepts on my own and explain them to myself in a way that I understood, whether that be writing out the steps with explanations, making acronyms, or connecting them to a real-world concept that was easy for me to grasp. I plan on doing the same during the lessons and will describe and explain the material differently to find the one that works for the student. While it took some time and patience, I soon began to fall in love with math. From pre-algebra to advanced placement calculus to multivariable and differential equations, my math foundations help me in my current studies in graduate school. Overall, I love teaching math in a down-to-earth and approachable manner, as it was taught to me when I was a student.

About the lesson

Math can be a very discouraging subject. That is why my goal is to approach every lesson with patience and empathy to empower my students and help them understand challenging topics.

Each lesson will begin with a concept review from the previous lesson or an explanation of the topics if it is the first lesson. I will always encourage questions to decrease confusion early on. We will then move on to some practice problems that either the student brings from their classes or ones that I will prepare in advance. At the end of the lesson, I will annotate the practice problems we went through during the lesson, listing the steps and an explanation for why we do each step. Finally, I will create a running log of concepts to act like a study guide for the student.

I have experience tutoring math from pre-algebra through calculus. I enjoy teaching middle and high school students because that is when my love for math began.
